What's in a chair?

Is your Chair Ergonomic?

You might not have considered just how important your office chair is, now is the time. A chair does much more than just providing a seat for you, it could make or mar the health of your back.

Sitting is a position that adds stress to the structure of the back, therefore, the selection of a suitable chair is a great step in preventing posture related health problems for people working in a seated position.

Typically, you spend a great deal of time sitting at work. Unsuitable chairs can add stress to the structures of the spine, therefore, it is important to have an ergonomic office chair that gives proper support to the back and promotes good posture.

A chair is ergonomic when it specifically suits you in terms of your body dimensions and the the task to be performed at the workstation.

An ergonomic chair has the following features:
Adjustable seat height that ranges between 16-21inches off the floor
Sufficient seat width and depth  usually 17-20 inches
Backrest
Well padded seat material
Armrest
Swivel
Stability 5 star base recommended.

Selecting an ergonomic chair can offer a range of benefits from lumbar (back) support to improved posture. It is not sufficient to have an ergonomic chair, you have to maintain a good posture to maximise the benefits.

So double check if your chair is ergonomic, if it's not, request for one from your employer. It's safe and healthy.

Stay fabulous.
